Div 1A Result: Kilmacow 1 - 0 Kilmacthomas

On Saturday, we took on Kilmacthomas for our first home game of the season.

Firstly, it must be said the pitch was in immaculate condition, so thanks to all the lads involved in preparing it for the game. Pony will be proud when he gets back from Austaralia!

From the opening minute we took the game to Kilmacthomas. Lee Vereker played a perfect through ball to Shane Gaule but he somehow nudged the ball over the keeper and the bar at the same time, a bad miss it has to be said!

Time and time again, our final ball let us down in and around the box with a disciplined Kilmacthomas defence using the offside trap very efficiently.

The pressure remained on the Kilmacthomas defence for the rest of the half but we couldnt find a breakthrough.

Into the second half and we were forced to introduce Dev Lowe due to an injury to Miguel. Not an ideal situation as Dev struggles to last the pace these days but he was willing to give it a go in the absense of a number of squad members.

This seemed to make everyone lift their game however and the goal finally came when Brian Fleming floated a corner from the right, and Shane Gaule arrowed a header in off the near post and over the line.

A chance to seal the game came minutes later when Robert Walsh got on the end of another through ball and placed his shot past the advancing keeper. With Robbie already celebrating the ball came back off the post and was cleared to safety.

After that, the game drew to a close with our defence well on top, and we recorded our first three points of the season. Well done to everyone for a fine effort.

Player Ratings: Sutton 6, Miguel 7 (Lowe 5), F.Walsh 7, Dalton 7, Callaghan 7, Vereker 7, Grant 7, Fleming (capt) 7, Robert Walsh 7, Gaule 7, Tom (new signing!) 7.

Div 1A Result: De La Salle 1 - 1 Kilmacow

Our first game of the 2005/2006 season brought us a tough away tie at De La Salle.

With a squad of just twelve players available for the game due to injuries & holidays, a good performance was required to take any points from experienced opposition.

The opening exchanges were scrappy with no chances for either side. However, as the first half progressed we started to dominate the game.

Some good clearances from the defence put De La Salle on the back foot and when the ball broke to Neil Callaghan he played an excellent through ball for Fintan Tynan. With the goalkeeper advancing, he coolly slooted the ball over his head and into the net.1-0!

Minutes later and Fintan had another chance to extend our lead but this time he blazed the ball over the crossbar after excellent work by Ray Grant and Shane Gaule.

Just before half time Peter Sutton and Fergal Walsh combined brilliantly to keep De La Salle at bay after a goalmouth scramble.

The pressure on our goal increased significantly in the second half with Eoin Dalton, Miguel, Lee & Cally holding firm. However, fitness was beginning to tell and with ten minutes left a goalmouth scramble gave De La Salle an equalizer.

It was tough luck on the team, but in reality the goal was coming. We regrouped however and held on for a valuable point.

All in all, it was a solid start to the 1A campaign.

Our next match is at home to Kilmacthomas.

Players are reminded to be in the complex at 1.30pm.

Player Ratings : Sutton 7, Miguel 8 (R.Walsh 7), Dalton 8, F.Walsh 8, Callaghan 8, Fleming 7, Grant 6, Gaule 6, Vereker 6, Sweeney 6, Tynan 7.
